XDOC a powerful text to executable convertor
Copyright 1988-96 By JauMing Tseng
WHAT IS XDOC?
XDOC is a text to executable convertor. This program converts
a documentation text file into a self-containing viewer.
It's possible to retrieve the original documentation text file or
send it to a printer by pressing "P" (Print) when you execute the
compiled executable file
features:
* Add only a small executable code piece to the text
(I've seen examples of 76 Kb!).
* Put the text part in the image part of the executable
(many programs add it as an overlay).
* Make a real .EXE file AND allow text-files > 64Kb to be converted.
* NO number of lines limit
* Cheap/free :-)
It's also possible to compress the compiled executable file with
my XPACK utility.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS.
XDOC works on any IBM-compatible machine.
Free DOS memory needed = about 16K plus the size of input file.
Every file compiled with XDOC can run on any IBM compatible
system: XT, AT, 80286, 80386, 80486, Pentium or Pentium Pro;
on Intel and non-Intel.
Using Special Text Colors.
To have colors in the screen display, put special marks in
the original text file as follows.
A ` character (ascii=96; usually the key to the left of "1" on
the top row of an American keyboard) is followed by a two-character
hexadecimal number.
Example:
^^^^^^^^
``1e `1e colors example `1b ``1b
This turns on a special color (1e) and later changes it back to
the original, which was 1b.
The colors will remain in effect until changed.
Note that you must use ` twice if you want this character to appear
literally in the text, as in the example above.
Try it out with:
XDOC XDOC.DOC EXAMPLE This_is_an_example
and then run the output file EXAMPLE.EXE to see this example.
(where This_is_an_example is a user defined header)
Usage
~~~~~
XDOC textfile [ EXEfile [header] ] [-d]
'XDOC /?' or 'XDOC -h' to display help screen.
Where "textfile" is the name of an ASCII text file
(default extension is ".TXT")
which will be converted to a .EXE file.
and [EXEfile] is the name of the .EXE file to be created
(default extension is ".EXE")
[header] is an optional heading
(default header is a blank row)
which will appear on the top of every page.
Option -d = Disable Color interpreting (ASCII 96)
